For all learning levels, Sewing skills are a requirement and you will be drafting your own pattern.

Working in 1/4 scale, (1/4 of the size of a veil) you can learn how to make many bridal veil lengths and styles, from just 1 way of creating your own pattern. What fabrics can be used for veils, what decoration can be used on the veils and how to use them.

Then you will make a veil from start to finish in the 1/4 scale and then learn how to sew on to a comb. Learn how to use a detachable veil and how to attach that veil using Denise’s secret method of making.

Author of 'Tiara Headdresses', founder and creative director of 'The British School of Millinery' Denise is well equipped to take you through the intricate ways of making delicate beautiful designs with this versatile fabric. Learning choice of veiling is used for your style of veil.

Demonstration tutor: Denise Innes-Spencer, is an expert in making bridal veils having created pieces for top bridalwear designers Suzanne Neville and Jayne Boulton and Ben de Lisi.

This class is suitable for all abilities a knowledge of sewing will help and you will be drafting your own pattern for this class.

  • COURSE CONTENT

    Skills learnt:

    • How to draft a pattern for 3 veil styles
    • How to cut and prepare a veil
    • Choice of hair attachment and how l to attach the veil
    • Ideas discussed for detachable veils and position of veils
  • COURSE DELIVERY METHODS

    This class will be held at a London venue in West Finchley (on the northern line tube) 

    Participation class size is small to ensure you receive the personal support you need. No more than 6 students in a class.

    There will be opportunities for students to ask questions throughout the session.

    Step by step notes will be sent to students before the course to help students prepare.

    This is a face-to-face participation class suitable for all levels, please call to ask for extra details.

    Some of the classes are taught in 1/2 or 1/4 scale, this is to save time and enable Denise to teach the class in 1 day. You will work on a smaller scale hat and then you will be taught how to scale up the size you have worked on for making larger sized hats or trimmings.

    Participants have not signed a data protection agreement and have not given permission for the class to be recorded unless you have given permission.​ To do so would be a breach of data protection laws.

    • Any personal information shared between the students and the tutor during the course must considered confidential and not shared without the consent of the relevant individual.
    • In the process of zoom courses, should The British School of Millinery's internet connection become significantly unstable during the course, it will be rescheduled.
    • All classes will start and finish on the designated times.

    Students are not allowed to video record the session.

    • Students are responsible for ensuring that their equipment is functioning properly (including audio, video and microphone). 
    • Students are responsible for ensuring that they have a stable internet connection.
    • All course content remains the intellectual property of The British School of Millinery. Students do not have permission to share any information from the course with any other person either online or offline. The reproduction of printed or verbal information is strictly prohibited.
    • Students do not have permission to video record this course. Participants have not signed a data protection agreement and have not given permission for the class to be recorded.​ To do so would be a breach of data protection laws.

  • CANCELLATION POLICY

    Bookings for The British School of Millinery's  courses are non-refundable if the student has to cancel.

    If there is an unfortunate circumstace of Denise being unable to teach a face to face class through illness, the course will be rescheduled for another mutual date. Please make sure for longer courses that you have insurence for hotel bookings and travel.
