Summer school for practising milliners

Summer school for practising milliners

Date: Monday 21st - Friday 25th July 2025 BST

Times of classes BST: 10am-4pm

5 days only for 30 hours tuition £750.00

Join me for five days of intense tuition designed for advanced levels of learning. Experience hands-on, face-to-face instruction in any subject you require. Pure unadulterated hand stitching and blocking, no glue required!

Do you want to learn how to block a straw or felt, or are you interested in blocking straw fabrics, constructing a wire-framed hat, or making a perched covered hat? All these subjects and more can be covered in this class.

If this is what you seek, then this is the class for you. There are only four spaces available for the week.

Not only will you gain skills in making your desired items, but you will also observe as three other students create, giving you the chance to spark off the creativity of one another.

Notes will be provided to accompany all skills learnt, either during the class or afterwards. You can also film the skills being demonstrated, subject to data protection regulations.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your skills and learn finishing techniques that could help you command a higher price for your work.

An opportunity to learn the skills of an experienced milliner Denise Innes-Spencer, who is the skills writer for ‘The Hat Magazine’.

If you are serious about millinery, I am equally dedicated to helping you achieve your goals.

The fee for this week is £750.00. The price does not include the materials you use, depending on what you make.

Please note:

Students will discuss with Denise before the class what they would like to make and she will guide you through the processes and ways of making your designs. The subject you choose to study is your choice (however tiara making is exempt there is a course later in the year that covers this exciting and lucrative subject).
