Demo:Beginners Trimmings in straw/cloth/sinamay PM GMT

Enhance your trimming skills by learning different methods of making trims with Straw hoods, Sinamay or Straw/abaca cloth.

Learn how the fabrics manipulate and why they are suitable for certain trims. When to stiffen and when not to? Producing at least 5 trims you will:


  • Choose the correct straw fabric for trim
  • How to cut bias strips correctly
  • Rolling, curling or folding different straw fabric ribbons
  • Stiffening and finishing the straw fabric
  • How to sew on a feather correctly
  • How to make trims from the corner waste of your fabrics
  • All demonstration classes get the same notes as the participation classes.


    This course will be run online using Zoom.

    Class sizes are small to ensure you receive the personal support you need. This course will have no more than three students.

    We will run the session using two webcams - one showing the tutor and the other focused on the tutor's hands to give a close-up view of the techniques being used. Step by step notes will be sent to students before the course to help them prepare.

    Students are not allowed to video record the session.
