Millinery lecturer
Denise Innes, creative director of The British School of Millinery is an experienced teacher/ lecturer with experience of teaching at universities, further education colleges, public and private schools as well as through lifelong learning providers.
Denise is available as a visiting lecturer to impart her expert academic knowledge and/or practical skills in millinery and 3D design. Her specialist areas include:
Fashion pattern cutting
5th scale, pattern drafting and alteration, body draping/ cutting, Lycra drafting, cutting and 5th scale, cutting for lingerie and period pattern cutting, sewing and finishing techniques in haute couture dressmaking and industrial manufacture.
3D textile surface decoration
Flower making, wire-work in surface decoration, machine embroidery techniques, appliqué techniques, freehand machine embroidery.
Printing techniques
Heat press printing, transfer printing, block printing, hand silk painting techniques.
Manipulation of fabric
Heat manipulation/ distressing, pleating/ bias draping (for hats and fashion), lace matching.
Working with specialist fabrics
Felt, straw, recycled fabrics, smart fabrics, Lycra/ body stocking, lace, organza, heat mouldable fabrics.
With specialist materials
Wire fabrics, wire-work, beads, mod roc for masks, crinoline hoop, metal fabrics, platers for silver and gold plate, carbon fibre rod.
